One-third of the year has passed. As we enter the Second Quarter, we have adjusted to Daylight Savings Time and are preparing to celebrate another holiday.

The “hot topic” in February become Whitney Houston. A radio talk show host on Saturday evening, February 18, devoted an hour of his show to “how prepared are you?” encouraging listeners to think about getting their documents in order: Advanced Directives, Durable Power of Attorney (health care, financial) and a will.

This issue will address planning for the unexpected from the perspective of a health care professional and an elder law attorney; information on Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and AARP Tax- Aide Program for preparing your 2011 income tax returns, and my legislative visit on March 28, Alzheimer’s Association Annual Sacramento Advocacy Day.
