Caring Boomers Newsletter- December 2012

We are approaching the end of another year--a time for celebration, reflection and setting goals for the new year.

If you are 65 years and over, you will have spent time reviewing Medicare plans.  "Making Confident Choices About Medicare" offers an overview and resources for information on Medicare Advantage plans; the official government booklet on Medicare & You on page 2.

"Care Planning:  Preparing for the Unexpected" addresses getting organized and staying organized with a diary (journal)-- referred to as the 'grab and go' binder on page 3.

If you are attending or hosting a holiday party, you will find helpful the suggestions provided by Judith Levine, RD, MS for the October 2003 Elder Caregivers NEWSLETTER on page 6.

If you are caring for an elderly loved one, or you are experiencing age-related changes, you can read the tips on cooking and serving on page 7 and kitchen aids on page 9.  Your loved one, too, can enjoy holiday meals from a list of special diets on page 8 in consultation with your physician.

"Holiday Healthy Eating" on page 10 is about preventing food-borne illnesses.

Many of you will be traveling during the holidays.  "Services for Travelers with Disabilities" on page 11 highlights assistance the airlines provide.

Join the discussion at the Caring for an Aging Loved One forum where the Hot Topic is a Boomer/Senior Roundtable on aging.  (See page 13).

The online radio talk show "Aging with Mattyee" is inviting sponsors.  (See page 14.)

If you have an announcement of interest to seniors and caregivers you would like included in the newsletter, please submit by the 20th of the preceding month.
